Sunglass Holder

October 12, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Vikki Zuplo says: “After reading the newsy reminder of our guild meeting coming up this week, and the request for “goodies” for Quilt Canada, I thought of an idea that we could all do as a guild. It is a sunglass holder. Very Very simple to make. I did up two in an hour this afternoon, and wrote out what I think are simple instructions for making it up, and have a picture of them.”

Faux Felting

March 12, 2007 | Leave a Comment

Faux felting is a quick and easy way to achieve a somewhat felted look, using fibres that are not able to be felted on their own. In faux felting, you can mix the excellent felting qualities of wools such as merino and polworth (which have long barbs on the fibre which allows them to felt easily) along with mohair, silk, and novelty yarns, none of which can felt at all. This is done by simply free motion sewing all the fibres down onto a backing.

Pineapple Table Runner

February 12, 2007 | Leave a Comment

This original pattern was designed specifically for the members of the Richmond Area Quilters Guild by Loretta Bluher-Moore of LBM Creations. Although Loretta is known to many quilters of this area as the rughooking and needle punch teacher, Loretta’s artistic talents in designing rughooking and wool applique patterns and kits are well recognized throughout Ontario and Quebec.

When Loretta was first approached to ‘donate’ a project for RAQG, she immediately thought that a wool applique table runner would be a fun and easy project. She quickly began planning the project and came up with a wonderful pineapple design - the symbol of hospitality. Although she has designed this project with wool in mind, Loretta says that it will work equally as well with cotton or homespuns. Upon request, this project can also be purchased as a complete kit. Supplies for this kit normally would cost $60, but for RAQG members she will discount 10%, for a total of $54. This includes all hand dyed 100% wool (front and back), and 3 skeins of hand dyed silk embroidery threads. Loretta can be emailed at lbmc@videotron.ca or telephone: 450-692-5853; Westport on weekends 613-273-8347.
Many thanks to Loretta from the members of the RAQG for this wonderful project!
