December 9, 2009 - Guild Meeting/Potluck

December 8, 2009

Correction from the last meeting: our May potluck will still be on the third Wednesday, May 19 and the last meeting of our year will be June garage sale on June 9,2010.

Now for reminders for our December meeting:

-as Shirley mentioned at the last meeting, both Nelson House and Harmony House have a number of children resident there, about 30 ranging in age from infants to 11 years. They will be receiving toys from various organizations, but are in need of socks and underwear. These need not be boring as festive ones are available! I purchased some this morning.

-there will be a contest for the most creative Christmas stocking, which will then be going on to the shelter. The Block of the Month ladies will be co-coordinating this. So bring your stocking and home made ones will be judged and store bought ones will be appreciated.

-the ladies at the shelter are also in need of personal toiletries and other small articles to fill their stockings. Please bring these gifts, unwrapped.

-Jan and Erin are providing you the opportunity to provide a gift to yourself: if you bring a fat quarter your name will go into a draw to be eligible to win a bundle! I collected quite a few plaid ones last month!

-The Library ladies will allow the return of books at this meeting, but none will be borrowed.

-Don’t forget your Block of the Month for December, a paper-pieced bauble. Do you remember that Joanne did not know what a bauble was until she joined her Internet group?

-The Social ladies request that 1) you wear something festive in celebration of Christmas 2) since, as far as I am aware, no one has volunteered their keyboard expertise, please bring a Christmas CD with your name on it, so that we can all enjoy festive music during dinner and afterwards. Lynn Price will be the music conductor for the evening. Remember that all articles of food must be able to be eaten with your fingers or your fork and the Social committee are providing dishes, utensils and decorative
-There will also be a Special Raffle of the Thimbleberries fabric which were the prize from the Plowing Match. The proceeds from this will go towards quilting a Guild project, not to be confused with the Summer Block Challenge. Tickets remain at the same prices.

-Quilties were delivered to both CHEO and the Queensway-Carleton hospital, this week.

Looking ahead: the Executive has decided that the Guild would contribute charm squares for the Quilt Canada loot bags. so please bring 5-inch squares to the February meeting and these will be forwarded to Calgary for Quilt Canada. These bundles will be attached with our Guild “fox” pins.

There will be show and tell at this and every meeting!

Please bring a plastic bag for boots to this meeting since snow is in the forecast!
