Welcome to the Richmond Area Quilters Guild. Our vibrant, creative guild is made up of 125 members and we are full again for the fourth year!
Our meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month, at 7:30pm. Visitors are welcome. Fee is $3 for visitors. Meeting are held at the Richmond Legion on Ottawa St. in Richmond, Ontario.
Here are the meeting dates for 2007-2008. Please mark them on your calendar: September 19, October 17 , November 21, December 12, January 16, February 20, March 19, April 16, May 21 & June 11. All of the meetings open with a social time at 7:30 pm and the meeting starts at 7:45pm. We ask that you plan not to arrive before 7:15 pm, so that the Executive has time to prepare the room for the meeting and for the Social Ladies to have time to get the coffee ready! Please remember to bring your mug so that you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. Each month there will be a sign up sheet on the goodie counter so you can take a turn bringing the goodies. The Dec. and June meetings are a pot luck and these meetings start at 7pm.

Did you know that the 4th Duke of Richmond was the Governor General of Canada & Commander over all His Majesty’s possessions in North America from 1818, until his death at the military settlement of Richmond, on Aug 28, 1819 at the age of 55? He was supposedly bitten by a rabid fox and died. There is a stone monument along Richmond Road near Steeple Hill Rd, just near Twin Elm Rd. marking the site where he resided and died. The fox is seen on village signs as well as on our Guild logo!
Some of the activities of the Guild include:
Block of the Month: At each guild meeting you may pick up a paper copy of a block pattern to collect, or more preferably to sew during the month. If you bring a completed block to the next meeting, pin it on the board, put your name in the basket for each entry and you may go home with enough blocks to make a quilt. This is the closest most of us will come to having a quilt in a day!
Fat Quarter Exchange: If you have a fat quarter that you are not going to use, trade it for one you love! All must be 100% cotton.
Raffle:Lynn Price will be selling tickets for a wonderful prize each month. The tickets are $1 or 3 for $2. Half of this money raised goes into our bank account for Guild programs and rent of the Legion Hall, and half goes to purchase the prize for next month.
Quilties: This is a charity project to make 24 x 24 inch quilties for the special needs babies at the Queensway Carleton hospital and CHEO. You can decide where your quilt will go. CHEO also needs quilts for children up to 12 years. Contact, Krista Zaleski or Judy Emond.
Library: The Guild has an excellent library available to members. You must show your membership card to borrow a book (even if the librarian knows you). Books may be kept for 1 month. There will be a sale of book and magazines at the October 17th meeting. Librarians: Deb Wilson & Joanne Myers Email the librarians.
Membership: Our limit is 125 members. We are full for the fourth year! Visitors fee is $3 for the evening. You can order a Guild name tag from Janice Wiggins; these must be prepaid, $10. At each meeting you must sign in, Janice has the membership list divided into 2 parts. If your last name starts with A -L, sign in at the table on the left side, if you are M - Z or a visitor, sign in on the right. This will help to keep the line moving, we hope!
Show & Tell: This is the best part!! Bring a quilt that you have made to show to us all. It inspires us to see the talents that we have in our group!
We will again support Harmony House (home for abused women and their children). Egg cartons and laundry soap can be left at the sign in table at any meeting.
At the November 21st and May 21st meetings, we have a food drive for the shelter and in December there is a stocking contest, so that all residents can receive a gift. We collect toiletries, chocolate and other small items to fill the stockings. Winter coats and jackets are always useful in the fall. If you are a newer member you may not know that we have donated quilts to Harmony House so that each bed has a cheery quilt. There are Eye-Spy quilts for the children’s corner as well.

As the fall turns to winter it is necessary to remove our outdoor footwear when entering the Legion Hall. We ask you to bring a plastic bag (put a piece of newspaper in it to absorb drips) to put your boots into during the meeting. Just place it under your chair during the meeting. Two hundred boots at the door would be a sight!!!
If you are aware of a member who is in need of a note or card from the Guild, please let us know. You can call Ann McLean during the day at 613 838 5541. This is very helpful, as we are not always aware of all the events in our members lives.
In November the Guild purchases (makes a donation for) a wreath from the Legion. This wreath is laid at the service Nov 11, at Memorial Park in Richmond. Perhaps you might like to lay this wreath on behalf of the Guild?? See Ann McLean or email thecountryquilter@hotmail.com
